Man charged after four-hour Fife siege in Ballingry

A 34-year-old man has been charged with assault and robbery following a four-hour police siege at a home in Ballingry, Fife.

Police were called to a disturbance at a property on Lochtyburn Avenue at around 5pm on Wednesday, 4 November, 2026. A significant stand-off took place between officers and the man as concerned residents began to gather nearby.

Armed officers break down door

Footage taken by neighbours showed dozens of uniformed officers swarming the residential street. Police set up a cordon around the property after the man was seen climbing out of an upstairs window.

Another clip showed the man engaging with police at the cordon, before he was later pulled to the ground by officers. Armed police used a battering ram to break down the front door of the home, and the man was then led from the property and into the back of a police van.

Court appearance due

Officers later confirmed the 34-year-old man was charged with assault and robbery. He is due to appear in court on Thursday, 5 November.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Wednesday, 4 November, 2026, officers attended a property on Lochtyburn Avenue in Ballingry in connection with an ongoing enquiry.

“A disturbance followed before a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with assault and robbery. He is due to appear in court on Thursday, 5 November.”

Fife named in dangerous areas list

The incident comes after Fife was named tenth in a list of Scotland's 15 most dangerous areas compiled by security experts. In July, ProFM Group shared a roundup using official data from the Scottish Government Data Repository, expressing crime rates per 10,000 residents.

According to ProFM Group, Dundee City has the highest crime rate in Scotland, with 929 crimes per 10,000 residents, and overall crime figures there have increased by 17 per cent compared to the previous year.
