Sydney Shooting: Man Arrested After Dawood Zakaria Gunned Down in Targeted Attack
Man arrested over targeted Sydney shooting murder

A 21-year-old man is in police custody following the execution-style murder of Dawood Zakaria in a Sydney car park, in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The victim, Mr Zakaria, was ambushed and shot multiple times in the underground car park of an apartment complex on Waterloo Street, Greenacre, on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the 29-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A Targeted and Brazen Attack

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are treating the killing as a targeted attack. The brazen nature of the shooting, in broad daylight within a residential building, points to a calculated and ruthless act.

"This was a planned and targeted attack," a police spokesperson stated. "The individuals involved showed a complete disregard for public safety."

Arrest Made as Manhunt Intensifies

The breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of a 21-year-old man at a home in nearby Bankstown on Wednesday. He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and is currently assisting detectives with their inquiries.

However, authorities are still hunting for a second man, described as being of Pacific Islander or Maori appearance, with a large build and a distinctive blonde beard. He was seen fleeing the scene in a white Mercedes, which was later found burnt out in the neighbouring suburb of Condell Park.

Community on Edge as Investigation Continues

The violent incident has left residents of the typically quiet area deeply unsettled. Forensic officers have been meticulously combing the crime scene for evidence, while detectives are appealing to the public for any information, dashcam footage, or CCTV that could aid the investigation.

Police are urging anyone with knowledge of the events or the whereabouts of the second suspect to come forward immediately, as they work to piece together the motive behind this brutal killing.
