Man arrested for allegedly trying to grab two girls in Ormesby

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after two young girls, aged five and six, were reportedly approached by a man wearing only one shoe in a residential street in Ormesby, North Yorkshire. Cleveland Police confirmed the incident occurred on Allendale Road at approximately 3.45pm on Monday.

Incident Details

The man allegedly tried to grab the children by the wrist. A police spokesperson said: "When they refused, the man tried to entice them, and they managed to run away." The suspect was described as a slim white male dressed in black or dark clothing, wearing a single shoe and carrying a silver suitcase. Officers confirmed on Tuesday night that a 38-year-old man had been arrested and remains in custody.

Police Investigation

Prior to the arrest, acting Sergeant Donnelly from Greater Eston Neighbourhood Team said: "This incident will understandably have caused some concern for our communities. We have carried out a number of inquiries already, including speaking with the victims, the local school, CCTV inquiries and having officers speaking to people in the local area."
