Man arrested after woman found dead in Bolton

Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found unresponsive at an address in Bolton in the early hours of this morning (August 4). A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.

Incident details

Greater Manchester Police were called to an address on Yewdale Avenue in Breightmet following reports of an assault at around 3:15am. A woman in her 30s was found unresponsive after sustaining injuries, and she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.

Police believe they have identified the victim, who has not yet been named, and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten from the force's Major Incident Team said: "My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim at this incredibly tragic time."

"We understand how troubling this news will be, and whilst formal identification has yet to take place, the believed family are being supported by specialist officers."

"A scene will remain in place as officers continue the investigation and we will have an increased police presence in the area."

"I'd like to reassure you that this was an isolated incident that is not believed to pose a wider risk to the public, and we currently have a man in custody in relation to the incident."

"I urge anyone who may have information to support our enquiries to please come forward".
