A 36-year-old man has been arrested after a man in his 60s was found dead with significant burns outside a partially alight home in Glenmore Park, Sydney. Emergency services were called to Wargon Crescent just before 1am on Thursday, 16 July 2026, following reports of a fire. Upon arrival, police located the body of an older man in front of the property, which was still burning.
Arrest and Background
At a press conference, Nepean Police Area Commander Superintendent Trent King confirmed the arrested man is well-known to police and has a criminal history. He also revealed that the two men are related. The 36-year-old was found inside a car on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, about 6.45am on Thursday and was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard for minor injuries.
Details of the Incident
Superintendent King stated there was no history of domestic violence between the two men. He said, "There appears to have been an altercation between the two parties there, following a break and enter into the premises — the front door was forced." He added, "An accelerant appears to have been used ... however there's no further information at this stage around what actually occurred within the premises."
Investigation Ongoing
Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation. A forensic examination of the deceased will be undertaken to determine the exact cause of death. Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire. No charges have been laid yet.
