Police have arrested a man following reports of shouting, punching, and biting in the waiting room of Bolton Accident and Emergency department. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, with emergency services responding to the scene shortly after 4:15pm.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the man, who had been brought into A&E by officers, began shouting at other patients before allegedly punching a man to the ground and biting another person's ear. A witness, Michael Anderson, who was present with his pregnant partner, stated that he and a nurse were forced to pin the suspect down to prevent further attacks until security arrived.
The suspect, a man in his 20s, was later arrested at the scene. He has been detained on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (section 18), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (section 47), assault on a police officer, and racially aggravated public order offences.
Greater Manchester Police have not released details regarding the injuries sustained by the victims. Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has been approached for comment.
