Man, 75, Dies in M4 Crash at Junction 27 in Newport

A 75-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle crash on the M4 in Newport on Monday, June 22. Police and paramedics were called to the scene at approximately 11:50 am after reports of a collision on the eastbound carriageway at Junction 27 for High Cross.

Emergency services arrived to find the man, who was the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

Gwent Police has confirmed that the incident involved only one vehicle. Officers are now investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the M4 at junction 27 at around 11.50am on Monday, June 22. Officers attended alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. The driver, a 75-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

The M4 eastbound was temporarily closed between Junction 27 and Junction 28 to allow for emergency services to work and for investigation teams to examine the scene. The road has since been reopened.

Impact and Appeal for Witnesses

Police are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference 165 of June 22.
