University Student, 19, Stabbed to Death in Manchester; Manhunt Underway

A 19-year-old university student has died after being stabbed in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Fallowfield, south Manchester. Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation and are searching for the suspect.

The victim was found with serious injuries on Wilmslow Road, near the University of Manchester's Owens Park accommodation, at around 2am. Officers administered CPR at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Detective Superintendent Neil Jones of GMP's South Manchester Division said: 'This was a terrible crime which has robbed a young man of his life and my thoughts are with his family at this devastating time.' He added that officers are 'working round the clock' to find the person responsible.

A large cordon was put in place on Wilmslow Road and surrounding streets, with forensic tents erected. The road reopened at around 4.45pm. Police have increased patrols in the area and are appealing for witnesses.

The University of Manchester confirmed the incident occurred opposite Owens Park and expressed condolences. The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
