The M67 is closed in both directions between junction 3 at Hyde and junction 4 at Hattersley due to an ongoing police incident. Officers are at the scene on the Tameside motorway this morning (August 4).
Closure expected to last most of the day
National Highways says the motorway is likely to remain closed throughout the day 'due to the nature of the incident'. A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Tameside spokesperson said: "Please be aware that officers are dealing with an ongoing incident on the M67. While investigations continue, the M67 will be closed in both directions for majority of the day."
The spokesperson added: "Please find an alternate route and we are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. Thank you for your cooperation." Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
Second closure nearby
Drivers are also facing a second major road closure nearby this morning. The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between Hollingworth and the A616 Flouch roundabout, in South Yorkshire, following a 'serious road traffic collision', according to National Highways. Police remain in attendance.
