The M27 eastbound in Hampshire is closed between junction 9 (Whiteley) and junction 12 (Portsmouth) following a serious collision involving a motorcycle. The closure, which spans around eight miles, has trapped drivers within the affected stretch.
Police advise alternative routes
National Highways reported that Hampshire Constabulary advised traffic had been stopped eastbound due to the serious collision at around 06:45 this morning. Shortly after 08:00, police amended the closure to cover the area from J9 to J12.
Police urged drivers to use alternative routes because of delays. Congestion is building up in the area, with delays exceeding 20 minutes on approach, National Highways warned.
Surface flooding reported
While the circumstances of the crash have not been confirmed, drivers said online that roads in the area suffered surface flooding this morning. Traffic was also trapped earlier westbound, but has since been released.
