An Oregon man with the unusual name Loony Toon and a lengthy criminal record has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting to shooting at police officers, authorities said.
The 43-year-old, whose name calls to mind the classic cartoon franchise Looney Tunes, fired a gun at three officers while speeding away from a traffic stop on June 20, 2025, in Milwaukie, Oregon, according to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said Toon was on probation for a first-degree attempted kidnapping charge at the time. He abandoned his car, fled on foot through a golf course, and evaded capture until he was arrested four days later in Sandy, Oregon, about 20 miles away.
Toon pleaded guilty to charges including attempted first-degree assault with a firearm, illegal use and possession of a gun, and second-degree escape. He also resolved outstanding cases in four other counties in exchange for a single 20-year sentence.
As part of his sentence, Toon must pay restitution to Milwaukie's municipal government for damaging a police cruiser and to the owner of a car he struck with bullets.
Milwaukie police officers involved in the confrontation attended the sentencing hearing but declined to make statements, as did Toon.
The District Attorney's Office noted Toon has 25 prior convictions, including 16 felonies. Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Wareham Portlock called his actions "incredibly dangerous," adding that he showed "callous disregard for every single person in his path."
Milwaukie, a city of about 21,000 residents, is located outside Portland.
