London Tube Strikes: Full List of Affected Lines as Walkout Causes Chaos
London Tube Strikes: Affected Lines and Travel Chaos

London has been hit by significant travel disruption this morning as tube strikes called by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union get underway. The industrial action, which began at midnight, is causing chaos for commuters across the capital, with two lines fully closed and partial closures on two others.

Which lines are affected?

There is no service on the Circle line, the Piccadilly line, the Metropolitan line between Baker Street and Aldgate, and the Central line between White City and Liverpool Street. Other Tube lines are experiencing severe delays and are starting late or finishing early. Transport for London (TfL) has warned that services will be limited before 6:30am and after 9pm.

Full list of suspended lines as of 5:25am

  • Bakerloo
  • Central
  • Circle
  • District
  • Hammersmith & City
  • Jubilee
  • Metropolitan
  • Northern
  • Piccadilly
  • Victoria

Why are the strikes happening?

The RMT union is protesting against plans to introduce a voluntary four-day working week for Tube drivers. The union claims the proposal raises concerns about driver fatigue and safety, while TfL defends it as giving drivers an extra day off and bringing the Underground in line with other train operators.

What other transport is running?

The Elizabeth line, DLR, London Overground, buses, and trams are running as normal but are expected to be significantly busier. Rail replacement buses are operating to Heathrow Airport due to no Piccadilly line service. The Heathrow Express remains in service.

Economic impact

Previous 24-hour strikes in April cost the economy between £130m and £250m in lost working days, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research. Hospitality and retail sectors are particularly hard hit, with pubs and restaurants expecting a 40% drop in sales.

Strike dates

  • Tuesday, June 2, from 12:01am to 11:59pm
  • Thursday, June 4, from 12:01am to 11:59pm

Normal service is expected on Wednesday and Friday, though TfL warns of possible residual delays.

Commuters are advised to check TfL's live updates via the TfL Go app and to complete their journeys before 9pm on strike days.
