Levi Davis's mum issues new appeal four years on

The mother of missing rugby union star Levi Davis has released a new video appeal four years after her son vanished, with the charity Missing People urging him to make contact following the closure of the Catalonia police investigation.

Levi Davis, a former Bath winger and X Factor Celebrity contestant, disappeared aged 24 on October 29, 2022. His mother Julie, who has not given up hope of seeing her son alive again, spoke on Missing People's YouTube channel about a son who "had the ability to light up a room when he walked in".

Mother's emotional appeal

Describing his qualities, she said: "Levi would do anything to put a smile on people's faces," before recalling some of her favourite moments with him. She added: "The uncertainty is heartbreaking. There are times when the emotional weight feels overwhelming."

Missing People, which is supporting Levi's family, said through a spokesperson: "Levi, if you are reading this, please get in touch. Our service is non-judgemental, confidential, and free. We just want to provide you with the support you need and help you to be safe."

Investigation concluded

In 2024, police in Catalonia told the BBC that their investigation into his disappearance had "concluded", saying their "most plausible hypothesis" was that Levi had drowned at sea. His family previously called for UK police to lead the investigation and have vowed to continue in their search for answers.

Levi, who played as a winger for Bath and appeared on The X Factor: Celebrity in 2019 as part of the group Try Star with fellow players Thom Evans and Ben Foden, was last seen on CCTV leaving The Old Irish Pub on La Rambla in Barcelona at around 10pm. Bar staff said at the time that he had only had one or two drinks.

Background and appeal

Levi had run out of money and was asking friends and family for £30 to get a hotel. The last known contact from him was after midnight, when he sent a WhatsApp to a friend. He had gone travelling after a serious knee injury left him unable to play rugby, and had considered quitting the game for his other love, music.

He had been open about his bisexuality and had been the victim of a "sextortion" plot long before his disappearance. Two years after his disappearance, Julie admitted fears the two things may be connected. According to Julie, Levi was raped and the attack was filmed, which led to him posting a video saying his life was in danger.

Missing People have appealed for anyone with any potential information about Levi's disappearance to contact their helpline by calling 116 000.
