Two friends filmed themselves beating a man to death before dumping his naked body in a pond, Leicester Crown Court has heard. Joshua Hack, 21, and Keith Lowe, 22, are accused of luring 23-year-old Brendan Mason to Abbey Park in Leicester in the early hours of July 5 last year and subjecting him to a brutal attack.
Prosecutor Miranda Moore QC told the court that the pair documented the savage beating on a mobile phone, telling Mr Mason to 'smile for the camera'. The court heard that Mr Mason was left naked and unconscious by a pond, with 99 separate injuries including brain damage, five broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He died later that day in hospital.
After the attack, the defendants allegedly robbed Mr Mason of his possessions and dumped them in a pond before cycling to a nearby McDonald's restaurant. Groundsmen found the victim at 7.40am and he was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.
Hack, from Beaumont Leys, has already admitted murder and is awaiting sentence. Lowe, from Crown Hills, denies murder and attempting to conceal evidence. The trial continues.
