Kansas City International Airport reopened on Sunday afternoon, hours after being evacuated due to a potential threat, according to the Kansas City Aviation Department. The terminal was cleared around 11 a.m. local time and reopened shortly after 2 p.m., with flights that landed during the shutdown held on the taxiway.
FBI spokesperson Dixon Land confirmed that the agency was aware of the incident and working with airport and law enforcement officials to assess the credibility of the threat. No further details were immediately provided.
Passenger Logan Hawley, 29, described the scene as he waited to board a flight to Texas. He saw a sudden influx of police and K9 units, followed by an announcement to evacuate immediately. Approximately 2,000 people were escorted onto the tarmac, he said.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed the nature of the threat. The airport resumed normal operations after the all-clear was given.
