Items from missing Lewis fishing boat found by divers

Police divers have recovered items from the missing fishing boat FV Kilda during searches near the Isle of Lewis. The boat disappeared on Tuesday, October 13, near the Port of Ness off the north coast of the island in the Outer Hebrides.

The body of 49-year-old Douglas Craigie was pulled from the water on October 14. His crewmates, Norman 'Tam' Murray, 40, and Murdo Morrison, 23, are yet to be located and are being treated as missing.

Searches Continue Offshore Lewis

More than a week on, searches remain ongoing. Specialist officers from Police Scotland's Dive and Marine Unit confirmed items from the boat have been recovered during searches in the area.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) exclusion zone for divers and vessels will be lifted from 11.59pm tonight, Thursday, October 22.

Appeal for Public Caution

Inspector Neil Taylor, local area Inspector for the Western Isles, said: "Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident. Efforts are continuing to work with partners and we are doing everything we can to get answers.

"We would again reiterate that this is a complex operation and we would ask that officers and specialists are given the time and space to carry out their enquiries.

"While the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) exclusion zone will be lifted tonight, we would urge people not to put themselves at any risk. Please do not attempt to carry out searches in areas which put you at risk of harm."

Fundraiser for Families

The families continue to ask for their privacy to be respected. Earlier this week a fundraiser was set up by The Western Isles Fishermen's Association to help loved ones of the men, who left behind young children, and has so far raised almost £60,000.

Anyone with concerns or information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 3575 of 13 October.
