Irlam school patrols increased after suspicious man report

Irlam and Cadishead Academy has increased patrols after students reported seeing a suspicious male near the school on Friday, October 9. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attended the site following the reports.

In an email to parents and carers, the school said a number of students reported their concerns to staff after seeing a man nearby. Staff on duty responded immediately to ensure the site was safe.

School response and police update

Senior leaders carried out additional patrols around the school grounds and surrounding local area to provide reassurance and ensure students felt safe as they arrived at school. The individual was reported to police, and the school said it was working closely with them.

The email added that police presence was expected at the end of the school day to help students leave safely and into the evening to complete patrols.

Community reaction and reassurance

The email was shared on a Facebook group, where parents praised the Irlam and Cadishead Volunteers for attending after the incident and prioritising student wellbeing. One parent said: "I can't believe things like this happens. Makes me sick to my stomach, thankfully nothing bad happened."

Nathan Rushton, Assistant Principal, signed the email off by encouraging students to report any concerns to a member of staff immediately.

A GMP spokesperson confirmed: "Our neighbourhood officers attended the school and no offences have been reported. Neighbourhood officers will continue to provide reassurance patrols around the school in an attempt to identify this male."
