An investigation has been launched after reports of a man approaching a lone child in Bolton. The incident is said to have taken place on Wingates Lane at around 4:30pm on Wednesday, September 30.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed there was no physical contact but said the report is being taken 'extremely seriously' and that officers are conducting enquiries. Members of the public have been urged to avoid online speculation to allow police to carry out their work.
Police statement
A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers from the Bolton West Neighbourhood team are investigating a report after it is believed a child was approached by a man at around 4.30pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026 on Wingates Lane, Bolton."
"Whilst there was no physical contact with the child, we take reports of this nature extremely seriously and are conducting enquiries into this."
Appeal for information
The spokesperson added: "It is important for people to remain vigilant however officers are asking the public to allow them the time to carry out their work and establish the factual circumstances of what has occurred and to refrain from online speculation."
