Armed police descended on a Huddersfield street following a shooting that left a man with serious injuries, in what detectives are treating as a deliberate, targeted attack.
Details of the Huddersfield Firearms Incident
West Yorkshire Police were called to Smiths Avenue in the Marsh area of Huddersfield at 8.01pm on Monday night, 1 December 2025. Reports indicated a man had been shot. Officers later located the victim, a man in his 30s, on nearby New Hey Road.
The man sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and shoulder. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where his injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Police Investigation and Community Reassurance
Detective Inspector Suzanne Hall, of the force's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, is leading the investigation. She stated that any use of a firearm is treated with the utmost seriousness and that all lines of enquiry are being pursued to apprehend those responsible and recover any weapons.
A police cordon remains in place on Smiths Avenue as forensic examinations continue. DI Hall confirmed that neighbourhood policing teams are supporting the investigation, with an increased police presence expected in the Marsh area. This is both to conduct house-to-house and CCTV enquiries and to provide reassurance to concerned local residents.
"This is being treated as a targeted attack," DI Hall emphasised. She urged anyone who witnessed the events surrounding the firearms discharge to come forward.
