A mother-of-three has been handed a prison sentence after committing a devastating hit-and-run that left her victim with catastrophic, life-changing injuries.
Sharon Cox, 47, showed "complete and utter disregard" for the woman she struck while driving her Vauxhall Corsa on the A449 in Kidderminster last October. Instead of stopping to help, Cox fled the scene, leaving the victim lying seriously injured in the road.
A life forever changed
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, suffered multiple broken bones and severe internal injuries that have permanently altered her life. She spent weeks in hospital undergoing extensive treatment and continues to face a long and challenging recovery.
In an emotional victim impact statement read aloud in court, the woman's family described how the incident has devastated their lives. "The physical and psychological scars will remain with her forever," the statement revealed.
The pursuit of justice
West Mercia Police launched an intensive investigation following the collision, eventually identifying Cox as the responsible driver. Officers praised the victim's "immense bravery" throughout the legal process.
