The bodies of two young half-sisters have been discovered inside suitcases in Cleveland, Ohio, following a tip from a dog walker. The grim find was made on Monday, March 2, in a neighbourhood on the city's east side.
Police have not yet identified the girls, who are believed to be between 8 and 13 years old and 10 and 14 years old respectively. Preliminary DNA testing has confirmed they are half-sisters.
Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd said it is unclear how the girls died, but their bodies had been there for some time. The circumstances do not appear to match any active missing persons cases in the area.
“We are hoping to find answers,” Chief Todd said. “This is a terrible, tragic situation.” A medical examiner's office is continuing its investigation and will release further information as it becomes available.
