Five young men are on trial for the murder of a Greek tourist who was followed across London and stabbed to death after a failed bag robbery, the Old Bailey has heard.
Antonis Antoniadis, 26, was attacked on a doorstep in New Cross, south-east London, on 7 July last year. He had been out with two friends at a nightclub in Marylebone before taking an Uber back to their accommodation.
The prosecution said the defendants—Shian Johnson, 25, Sofian Alliche, 20, Joshua McCorquodale, 20, Alfie Hipple, 18, and a 17-year-old youth—had spent the night outside the club in a stolen car looking for someone to rob. They followed the Uber for more than half an hour.
As Mr Antoniadis's friend struggled to find the door key, four figures in hoods and balaclavas approached, and the victim hit one with a brandy bottle before being stabbed in the chest and thigh, suffering catastrophic blood loss. He died on 21 July.
The alleged getaway car, a stolen Kia Sportage with false number plates, was captured on CCTV. The court heard that the five defendants are jointly responsible for murder and planning to rob personal items.
