Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested four people and seized 11 illegal e-bikes, class A drugs and swords during an operation targeting anti-social behaviour in Gorton, Abbey Hey and Levenshulme on Thursday night (October 22).
A team of 50 officers stopped and searched 30 individuals as part of the crackdown, which also involved a drone unit, marked and unmarked vehicles, and foot patrols.
Drugs and Weapons Recovered
Quantities of heroin and crack-cocaine wraps were found, along with multiple bags of cannabis of varying weight and size. A house search also led to the recovery of offensive weapons, including two swords.
The operation was described as a "huge day of action" for the force, continuing recent months of arrests and illegal bike seizures.
Ongoing Community Policing
Officers regularly monitor and act on intelligence from within communities. One such effort, Operation EagleEye, has been operating in the Manchester area with drone resources for more than a year.
Inspector Zac Campbell, from GMP's City of Manchester Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Yesterday saw a concentrated and direct policing effort to tackle issues that we know the public want to see dealt with. While the work is constantly ongoing, this was a dedicated day of action that clearly reminds criminals that we will never tolerate their actions."
He added: "Working with neighbourhood teams across Manchester, in addition to specialist resources in the form of our drone unit, we were able to secure arrests, recover dangerous weapons, and harmful drugs."
Campbell also highlighted the harm caused by drug dealing, saying it can lead to violence and exploitation, and stressed that removing substances from circulation helps provide safer communities. He urged anyone with concerns to contact their local team, adding: "All intelligence is logged and helps us build cases against those who cause disruption to their areas."
