A 17-year-old girl has died at Kendal Calling festival in Cumbria after emergency services were called to the site in the early hours of Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the festival site at 2.13am on August 2 following reports of a teenage girl suffering a medical episode. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Officers and colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service attended. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, including the administration of CPR, a 17-year-old girl was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene."
Family supported by specialist officers
The spokesperson added: "Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
The incident happened during the three-day music festival at Lowther Deer Park, near Penrith, which was expected to draw more than 40,000 people. Headliners for this year's event included Two Door Cinema Club, Biffy Clyro and Wolf Alice.
Witness appeal
The police spokesperson added: "Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of the 'Calling Out' tent and the 'Big Wheel' within the Kendal Calling site at around 2:00am (2 August 2026) or anyone who has any information that may assist officers with their enquiries. Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare."
