A German tourist has tragically died after being bitten by a snake during a snake-charming show in Egypt, according to German police. The 57-year-old man was on a family holiday in Hurghada, a popular Red Sea resort, when the incident occurred in early April.
Incident Details
Police in southern Bavaria reported that two snakes, believed to be cobras, were used in the performance. The reptiles were draped over the necks of audience members before the snake charmer allowed one of them to crawl into the man's trousers. The snake then bit him on the leg.
The victim exhibited clear signs of poisoning and required resuscitation before being rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to the venom. The man, who has not been named, hailed from the Unterallgäu district of Bavaria and was vacationing with two relatives.
Investigation Ongoing
German authorities are now investigating the death, working alongside prosecutors. They are awaiting the results of a toxicology test to determine the exact cause. When contacted by Agence France-Presse, Egyptian officials stated they were unaware of the incident.
This tragic event highlights the dangers associated with wildlife performances, particularly involving venomous snakes. Cobras are highly venomous and can deliver a fatal bite if provoked or mishandled.
