In a startling case that has raised serious questions about police tactics, a wanted man managed to evade a sprawling ten-day manhunt across Nottinghamshire, despite officers establishing multiple roadblocks in the area.
Dezi Freeman, 31, became the target of an intensive search operation after he failed to appear at Nottingham Crown Court. Police were desperate to locate him, setting up checks on roads in the Bulwell and Hucknall areas in an attempt to intercept him.
Yet, for over a week, Freeman seemingly vanished into thin air. Shockingly, it was not a high-tech police operation that finally led to his capture, but a routine call. Officers responded to an unrelated incident of criminal damage at a residential property on Tuesday morning.
Upon arrival at the address in Hucknall, they found more than they bargained for: Dezi Freeman was inside the property and was promptly arrested on the spot.
His evasion of the widespread search has sparked criticism and disbelief. "How can someone avoid capture for so long when the police are actively looking for them with such measures?" asked one local resident, echoing the sentiment of many in the community.
Freeman has since been remanded into custody after finally facing the court for his original offence of assaulting an emergency worker. The Nottinghamshire Police force has been approached for comment on the efficacy of their search operation.
