France on High Alert for Bastille Day and World Cup Semifinal

France remains on high alert as the nation celebrates Bastille Day and prepares for the World Cup semifinal match between France and Spain later tonight. The Bastille Day parade in Paris has concluded, but security measures are being maintained for the evening's sporting event.

Massive Security Deployment

According to Le Figaro, 70,000 security personnel have been deployed across the country to protect public events yesterday and today, including the World Cup semifinal in Dallas. French interior minister Laurent Nuñez told BFM TV that the authorities are “maintaining a high level of vigilance” and are ready to “put an immediate stop to any disorder.”

Minister's Warning

Nuñez confidently stated that the authorities will monitor celebrations – “and France will win, so there will be celebrations” – and act whenever needed. “No unruly behavior will be tolerated,” he said.
