FBI Offers Massive Reward in Hunt for Capitol Pipe Bomb Suspect Three Years After January 6 Attack
FBI offers $500K reward for Capitol pipe bomb suspect

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has significantly escalated its hunt for a crucial January 6 suspect, tripling the reward offer to a staggering $500,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for planting pipe bombs near the US Capitol.

Three-Year Mystery Deepens

Despite an extensive three-year investigation involving over 1,000 tips and reviews of countless surveillance videos, the identity of the pipe bomb suspect remains one of the most perplexing mysteries from the January 6, 2021 attack on American democracy.

The dangerous devices were strategically placed at the headquarters of both the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee the night before pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.

Increased Reward Signals Urgency

"The FBI is confident someone knows who is responsible for placing these pipe bombs," stated David Sundberg, assistant director of the FBI's Washington Field Office. "We are hopeful this increased reward will encourage anyone who may have been hesitant to come forward to do so now."

The reward increase from $340,000 to $500,000 represents one of the largest offers in recent FBI history for domestic terrorism cases, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating this unresolved threat.

Detailed Suspect Description

Investigators have released comprehensive details about the suspect:

  • Approximately 5'6" to 5'9" in height
  • Wearing a face mask, grey hooded sweatshirt, and Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes
  • Carrying a backpack believed to contain the explosive devices
  • Seen in surveillance footage moving deliberately through Washington DC neighbourhoods

The suspect methodically placed both pipe bombs between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm on January 5, 2021, then disappeared into the night, leaving behind devices that fortunately failed to detonate.

Ongoing Investigation Efforts

The FBI continues to pursue all leads, having already conducted over 1,000 interviews and examined more than 39,000 files of video evidence. The investigation represents one of the most extensive domestic terrorism probes in American history.

Authorities emphasize that even the smallest piece of information could prove crucial in solving this case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
