Avtar Singh, a beloved member of the Sikh community in Tracy, California, was reported missing on February 17 after his wife discovered their three six-month-old children alone and unharmed in their residence.

On Friday afternoon, deputies from the Napa County Sheriff's Office located a body near Lake Berryessa, approximately two hours from Tracy. The deceased was later positively identified as Avtar Singh. According to San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow, the investigation indicates that Singh was not the intended target of his captors. Surveillance footage captured the moment Singh was forced into a white SUV by three abductors around 2:30 p.m. near the Gurdwara Gur Nanak Parkash temple, where he lived with his family.
Sheriff Withrow emphasized that this was not a random act, stating, "They were targeted after another individual for a specific reason, and we're hoping that reason comes to light." The video showed Singh attempting to resist but being overpowered by the unknown suspects. His official cause of death has not yet been determined, as confirmed by Investigator Supervisor J. Hovda with the San Joaquin Office of the Medical Examiner, but the case is being investigated as a homicide.

The temple had recently celebrated the births of Singh's triplets, who were born prematurely and required extended hospital care.
"When they got here, it was a big gathering. It was a big celebration. He was happy, mom was happy, and the community was happy," Deep Singh recalled, adding, "We're not gonna be able to repair her loss." A GoFundMe page has been established to support Singh's widow and their three children, highlighting his humility, quiet dedication, and loving nature. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $406,000 had been raised to cover funeral expenses and provide financial assistance for the grieving family.
