A devastating incident unfolded in New York City on Friday evening, leaving two men dead and three others critically injured after a suspected drunk driver lost control of his vehicle and mounted the pavement. The tragedy occurred around 6 p.m. in the Manhattan Valley neighbourhood, where a 61-year-old man driving a black Mercedes-Benz SUV allegedly struck multiple parked cars before ploughing into a group of men outside a barber shop.
Victims Identified
Police confirmed that the deceased were a 35-year-old man and a 46-year-old man, both pronounced dead at the scene. The 35-year-old victim was a devoted father of triplets, according to family members. Three other individuals, aged 36, 44, and 51, were rushed to hospital in critical condition with severe injuries.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses described the aftermath as a 'horror show', with one of the victims reportedly disfigured and pinned under the driver's car. Emergency services worked quickly to extricate the injured and provide medical aid. The driver was taken into custody without immediate charges, pending the outcome of the investigation.
