A father allegedly killed his ex-wife at the grocery store where she worked on the 12th birthday of their son, before also murdering her new husband, police said. Alejandro Estrada, 43, was taken into custody after two men tackled him to the ground at a Smith's grocery store in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Estrada allegedly entered the store around 11:30 a.m. and shot Amanda Frias Rosas, 40, and Victor Frias Rosas while they were at work. The couple, who married in February 2025, were pronounced dead at the scene. Estrada and his ex-wife were struggling through a custody battle at the time of the shooting, which occurred on their son's 12th birthday and just days before their daughter's 10th birthday. The children were not at the store at the time of the shooting.
The father had received a notice on March 6 that he was $2,800 behind in child support after previously being ordered to pay Frias Rosas $342 a month in November, according to KLAS. They were scheduled to review their agreement at a hearing on June 1. The parents previously shared joint custody in 2023, the outlet reported.
“The hate you have for your ex should never be more than the love you have for your child,” the slain mother wrote in a January 2025 Facebook post. “You're just hurting your child by hurting your ex. Good parents shouldn't have to beg or fight for a place in THEIR child's life!!”
A GoFundMe has been launched by Amanda's family to help cover the cost of her funeral. “She leaves behind loved ones who are grieving an unimaginable loss, especially her young children, whose lives have been forever changed,” the fundraiser said. “She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be remembered for the care, love, and light she brought to those around her.” The fundraiser has garnered more than $2,500 of its $18,000 goal as of Wednesday morning.
Estrada faces two counts of open murder, eight counts of discharging a gun, one count of possession of a firearm or deadly weapon, and one count of aggravated stalking with use of a deadly weapon. He is expected back in court on Wednesday to face the 12 charges.
Merconie Clark and Darius Alston were the two men who subdued Estrada inside the store, according to KSNV. Clark, a delivery driver, had gone into the store to get a few items before starting his shift. He was in the checkout line when he heard “two or three shots” and got down on the ground, he told KLAS. “I see a lot of people running, employees, customers, and I don't really believe it, and then I hear another ring of shots, probably five to six - bah, bah, bah,” he recalled. After a female employee called out that there was a shooter, Clark rushed Estrada and the pair wrestled for the gun. He grabbed the gun from Estrada and started screaming for help. Alston then came over and began hitting Estrada to keep him on the ground. “I move all the weapons and pull them away from him. I didn't even know until after I moved the bag of weapons that he had more weapons in his backpack,” Clark recounted. Alston had come back into the store after getting his children and partner out. He had gone back in to grab his partner's keys and phone, and that's when he noticed Clark and Estrada. Alston said he began to beat Estrada to keep him away from the weapons-filled backpack. Moments later, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded. Police took Estrada to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before booking him into jail, where he remains.
