An e-scooter rider crashed into a police officer outside Buckingham Palace, with both rushed to hospital. The collision occurred around 4pm yesterday at the bottom of Constitution Hill, where the rider struck the officer, who was a pedestrian.
Emergency Response
Both the male rider and the officer were taken to a major trauma centre after emergency services arrived. Their injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing. Paramedic equipment, an abandoned police hat, and scraps of clothing were strewn across the road, while the black e-scooter lay on its side nearby.
Cordon and Confusion
A large cordon remained in place for several hours, causing confusion for cyclists. Officers shouted at people attempting to ride through the cordon on a cycle lane, saying, "Get out, you're in a crime scene."
Official Statements
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Both the rider of the e-scooter and the police officer were taken to hospital. Their injuries were assessed as non-life threatening and non-life changing." A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We sent an ambulance crew, incident response officer, and dispatched London Air Ambulance via car to the scene. We treated two males at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority."
