Muhammed Ghani, 49, was caught by plain-clothes police officers as he counted a large quantity of cash in his car in East Kilbride. The officers found cocaine, cannabis, and ecstasy pills during a search of his vehicle.
Incident details
At 10.40pm on December 14, 2024, police spotted a vehicle parked on Kittoch Street, East Kilbride, with the engine running and headlights on. Ghani was seen talking on his phone and appeared to be counting a large amount of money.
When officers approached on foot and knocked on the driver's window, Ghani was startled. He dropped the money into the footwell and moved bags there as well. When advised he was being detained for a search, he said "I'm f****d".
Drugs and cash seized
The officers recovered bags of cocaine, ecstasy, and cannabis, along with £2,195 in mixed notes. They also seized two phones, one of which was constantly active and the other coated in white powder.
Ghani was released but arrested again on January 24 last year in Stuart Street, East Kilbride, after his car was driven "erratically". Cocaine and cannabis were recovered, along with £410 in cash. A mouth swab tested positive for cocaine.
Court outcome
At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Ghani, of Blaeloch Drive, Castlemilk, admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs and driving with more than 10 times the permitted amount of cocaine in his system. The total value of drugs seized on the two occasions was £6,660.
Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. He was allowed to remain on bail.
