A dog walker made a grim discovery in Savernake Forest, Wiltshire, on bank holiday Monday, finding charred human remains. The alarm was raised at around 8am on August 25, prompting an urgent police response.
Officers cordoned off the area and launched an investigation, with forensic teams deployed to the scene. The force confirmed that a body had been found and that inquiries were ongoing to identify the man's next of kin.
Members of the public were initially advised to avoid the area, though the cordon is believed to have since been lifted. Police have not yet disclosed how long the remains may have been there or whether the death is being treated as suspicious.
