Khaleed Oladipo, a 20-year-old cybersecurity student at De Montfort University, has died after being stabbed in Leicester city centre. Police named the victim on Thursday after he succumbed to his injuries in hospital following the attack on Tuesday afternoon.
Oladipo, from London, was described by his family as an 'extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend'. In a statement released by Leicestershire Police, they said: 'Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him.'
Emergency services were called just after 5pm on Tuesday following reports that a man had collapsed. He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but died shortly after. A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest. An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Officers believe Oladipo had been involved in an altercation with another man, who fled the scene before police arrived. The incident led to road closures as forensic teams conducted examinations. De Montfort University Vice-Chancellor Professor Katie Normington said the university was 'devastated' and was offering support to students, staff and the victim's family.
