Darlington car park shuts after vandalism damages escape routes

Darlington Borough Council has confirmed the indefinite closure of East Street Car Park, located above the former Wilko premises, following vandalism that damaged emergency escape routes and public access points, rendering the site unsafe for continued operation.

Safety concerns force shutdown

The local authority stated that the damage compromised safety routes, making it impossible to keep the car park open. Shattered glass and damaged windows have been reported by residents in recent weeks. No reopening date has been provided.

Alternative parking options

Motorists are being redirected to other facilities. Chesnut Street offers parking at £2 per day or £8 for a weekly ticket, a five-minute walk from the town centre. Kendrew Street East and West car parks and Garden Street charge £5 per day or £20 for a weekly ticket.
