A nine-year-old girl has died after being found seriously injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath. Emergency services were called to Elliot Industrial Estate at 12.02am on Monday, August 3, and the child was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died. Police are treating the death as suspicious, and a 35-year-old white British man has been arrested in connection. Floral tributes have been left at the scene.
Police attacked during protest in Glasgow
Three officers were injured after eggs and bricks were thrown at police by a masked mob during a protest in Priesthill, Glasgow, on Sunday evening. Windows of police cars and a home were smashed. Officers attended Priesthill Road at around 6.55pm on August 2 following reports of a protest outside a house. The occupants were removed, and the crowd, some with faces covered, became increasingly hostile.
Whisky thieves jailed
Ram-raiders Gary Hay and Peter Winks were caught on CCTV smashing a stolen Ford Transit van into a Co-Op store in Dundee to steal a large quantity of single malt whisky. The pair pleaded guilty to theft of the whisky and the van, valued at £68,200. Hay was jailed for 34 months, and Winks for 33-and-a-half months.
Arrest over suitcase death in Athens
A 26-year-old man from Afghanistan has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross, 38, whose body was found in a suitcase in Athens on July 18. Reports say he faces charges of intentional homicide, robbery, and weapons offences, and he reportedly confessed to transporting her body. It has emerged he was a cleaner in her apartment complex.
Man injured in targeted M74 attack
A 63-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after an attack involving a group of motorcyclists and people in four vehicles on the M74 between junctions 10 and 11, near Lesmahagow, at 1pm on Sunday. A red Mazda with a smashed rear window was recovered in Ayrshire, but the other vehicles are untraced. Police believe the attack was targeted.
