Dad dies after car crashes into Lidl store

Tributes have been paid to a "much-loved" dad and brother who died after a car crashed into a Lidl store in Wolverhampton.

James Singh Jagpal, 39, was inside the store on Finchfield Hill when the collision took place just before 6pm on Friday, October 23.

Family's tribute

A statement issued by Mr Jagpal's family on October 27 read: "A much-loved son and brother, devoted partner of over 20 years and loving father to two wonderful daughters.

"Known for his kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour, James was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

"James was the absolute centre of our world, and it is unimaginable how we will navigate life without him by our side.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff, customers and emergency services who immediately came to James's aid at the scene."

Investigation ongoing

The driver of the car, a woman in her 70s, has been released from hospital and will be spoken to by West Midlands Police in due course. Two other women who were taken to hospital with serious injuries have since been discharged.

Specially-trained officers continue to support Mr Jagpal's family, who have appealed for everyone to respect their privacy and dignity by not sharing or circulating footage of the aftermath of the collision.

Officers are continuing to piece together the full circumstances of the collision, urging anyone with information or dashcam footage that can help with enquiries to get in touch. In particular, they have asked whether anyone recalls seeing a blue Renault Zoe immediately before the collision.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We're continuing to work to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

"We're looking to speak to anyone who was driving in the area around Finchfield Hill between 5pm and 6pm on Friday.

"We want to understand what might have caused the collision and would especially like to see any dashcam footage which might show the car involved.

"If you remember seeing a blue Renault Zoe immediately before the collision, please get in touch."

Anyone with information or images which could help the investigation is asked to call 101 or use Live Chat on the website quoting log 4069 of 23 October. The team can also be contacted directly by emailing SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk.
