Local Councillor's Account
Coun Steven Rutherford, who represents the Denton and Westerhope ward on Newcastle City Council, said he went to see what was happening after being told police were on the street.
He said: "I had got a call from somebody asking what was going on. I went across and saw all the armed police running about. There's an elderly lady that lives in the corner bungalow, and the first thing I did was check on her. She was quite worried. There was probably about three cars of firearms officers."
