The Metropolitan Police have provided an update on the condition of the four men injured in a stabbing in Covent Garden, central London, on Wednesday. Two of the men remain in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, while the other two have been discharged.
Arrest and investigation
A 47-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon. Officers have stated they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident, which they consider to be isolated.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart confirmed that police arrived within minutes of receiving numerous reports. He said: "While still at an early stage of the investigation, we would like to reassure the community that we currently believe this to be an isolated, mental health-related incident."
Incident details
The stabbing occurred on Endell Street at approximately 12:30 PM, prompting a significant emergency response. The London Air Ambulance landed in nearby Trafalgar Square, but all four victims were taken to hospital by road.
A pair of scissors was recovered from the scene. A police cordon, which had extended from High Holborn and covered part of Endell Street, was later lifted as the investigation continued. Before the area was reopened, officers were seen speaking with individuals at the nearby St Mungo's homeless centre.
Detectives are still working to establish the full circumstances, and police have confirmed the investigation remains in its early stages. Officers will maintain a visible presence in the Covent Garden area while enquiries continue.
