Two of the four men stabbed in Covent Garden remain in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. The other two victims have been discharged.
The men, aged 34, 39, 42, and 52, were found with stab wounds on Endell Street at approximately 12.30pm on Wednesday. A 47-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
Police statement and investigation
In a statement, the Met said: "Four men - aged 34, 39, 42, and 52 - were found with stab wounds and assessed at the scene by paramedics. They were taken to hospital where two remain with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing. The other two victims have since been discharged."
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart revealed officers arrived within minutes following numerous reports of the disturbance. He stated: "While still at an early stage of the investigation, we would like to reassure the community that we currently believe this to be an isolated, mental health -related incident."
Detectives verified that a pair of scissors was retrieved from the scene. Authorities indicated they are not pursuing additional suspects and consider the incident contained.
Emergency response and ongoing enquiries
The incident triggered a substantial emergency response, with the London Air Ambulance landing in Trafalgar Square, though all four casualties were transported to hospital by road.
A police cordon spanning High Holborn and a section of Endell Street was lifted as the investigation continued. A uniformed police presence will be sustained throughout the Covent Garden area while enquiries progress.
