Coronation Street fans have expressed outrage after Tyrone Dobbs lied to the police during Friday's episode, potentially sending an innocent woman to prison. The mechanic, played by Alan Halsall, denied seeing Summer Spellman on the night of Theo Silverton's murder, despite flashbacks confirming he did.
DS Lisa Swain, who has a history of arresting the wrong people, charged Summer with Theo's murder after forensics found traces of his blood on her brooch. Summer pleaded her innocence, claiming Tyrone could alibi her, but when questioned, Tyrone claimed he had not seen her.
Viewers were quick to criticise Tyrone's actions on social media. One fan wrote on Reddit: 'He has lied to the police and landed a young woman in prison for a crime she did not commit. He really can be despicable.' Another added: 'I was appalled when he lied.'
Some fans speculated that Tyrone may have been involved in a separate incident with Carl Webster, possibly dropping a car on him, which could explain his reluctance to come forward. However, no official explanation has been given for his deceit.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am.
