Xaverian College in Rusholme has issued a new statement after police were called to a disturbance on its campus during an open day, hitting out at 'inaccurate information being shared online that does not reflect what happened'.
Footage shared on social media showed police outside the 164-year-old college last Saturday afternoon. Clips shared widely on TikTok showed groups of youths running across a large grassy area in front of the college building.
Police called to reports of a fight
Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers attended at around 1.10pm to reports of a fight and disturbance involving a number of young people.
The college said there was an 'altercation' involving 'three young visitors, who are not students at the college'. They were removed from the campus. The college said no weapons were involved and there were thankfully no injuries.
College statement and next open day
In a statement, the college said: "Towards the end of our open day on Saturday 10th October 2026, there was an altercation involving three young visitors, who are not students at the college. Staff responded immediately and the individuals were removed from campus.
"In line with our safeguarding procedures, Greater Manchester Police were called. No weapons were involved, and no one required medical treatment. The matter was dealt with on the day, no further action has been required, and the open day continued as planned.
"We understand that this may have caused concern, and we want to reassure our students, families and community that the safety and wellbeing of everyone at Xaverian is always our first priority. We have well-established procedures in place at all our events, and these worked as they should.
"We are aware of speculation and inaccurate information being shared online that does not reflect what happened. Sharing unverified claims can cause real distress, so we ask everyone to rely on official updates from the college, to think carefully before posting or sharing, and to avoid speculation."
Xaverian is a Catholic College, a community of learning, faith and service. The college's next open day on Sunday 18th October 2026 will go ahead as planned, with its usual arrangements in place.
