Car Ploughs Into Melbourne Comic Con Crowd: One Dead

One person has died and another is fighting for their life after a car mounted a kerb and struck pedestrians at the Supanova Comic Con and Gaming event in Melbourne, Australia. The incident occurred shortly after 5pm local time on Langs Road near the Melbourne Showgrounds.

Police reported that a grey Toyota mounted the kerb before hitting two pedestrians. One victim died at the scene, while the second was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A man has been arrested and will be interviewed by police.

Witness Tom told Nine News that he was leaving the festival with his wife and daughter when a silver Toyota sped past them. He described hearing a screech and seeing the car mount the kerb at erratic speed. The car performed a U-turn and stalled, allowing Tom to detain the driver. Tom's wife, a paramedic, provided emergency care to one victim for 20 minutes until emergency services arrived.
