A 25-year-old man killed in a drive-by shooting in Brixton, south London, has been named as Keanu Taylor. He was shot on Coldharbour Lane in the early hours of Saturday morning and later died in hospital.
Police were called at 1.14am on Saturday, 2 May, following reports of multiple shots fired. Three other people, including a pensioner, were injured in the attack but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The gunman is understood to have opened fire from a car while driving past a barbecue attended by around 50 people. A memorial has been set up at the scene, with flowers and a picture of Keanu left by his father.
In a tribute, his family said: 'Keanu was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend. He was loved by everyone, and his smile would light up a room. Keanu had the world at his feet, and he's left a huge hole in our family, our hearts are absolutely broken.' A friend described him as 'big-hearted' and innocent, saying he was 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, leading the investigation, said: 'This was a shocking act of violence which has had a devastating impact on those involved and the local community. I want to reassure residents that we are working urgently to identify and apprehend those responsible.' Extra police patrols have been deployed in the area, and no arrests have been made.
The shooting took place yards from where 22-year-old Keelen Wong was fatally stabbed in October 2023, on a stretch of road locals have dubbed 'murder mile'. Police are appealing for anyone with information or footage to contact them on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
