Ana Carolina Silva and her partner Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, a military police officer, were found dead in a motel room bathtub in São José, Brazil, hours after celebrating their daughter's fourth birthday. The couple, both aged 37, had been together for nearly 20 years.
Family raised the alarm when they failed to pick up their daughter the following day. Police discovered the bodies in an electrically heated bathtub that was still switched on. Investigators are exploring electrocution or poisoning as possible causes, with no signs of violence.
Officer Felipe Simão, leading the investigation, stated that homicide and suicide have not been ruled out. The couple's car and CCTV footage are being examined. Jeferson did not have his service weapon with him at the motel.
A post-mortem is expected within two weeks. Both were laid to rest earlier this week. Jeferson was described as well-liked by colleagues, while Ana was remembered as a devoted mother and daughter.
