Boy and girl arrested after Salford estate 'terrorised'

A boy and a girl have been arrested in connection with a spate of 'out of control' anti-social behaviour in a Salford neighbourhood.

Over the past week, police were called over a number of incidents involving youths in Cadishead. Locals said fireworks were launched at cars and businesses, a bus driver was assaulted and doors were kicked down by the youngsters who were said to have been 'terrorising' the streets.

Incidents over the past week

Greater Manchester Police said last Thursday (October 26), a 60-strong group of youths caused damage to a property. Officers arrived but faced a 'volatile situation'. Three officers were attacked amid the incident, with a full probe now underway.

On Saturday, on Halloween night, police were called over reports of youths setting off fireworks on Liverpool Road. When officers arrived, they fled the scene.

As well as these incidents, a bus driver was also attacked in the area with CCTV seen by the Manchester Evening News showing a group of around 15 to 20 youngsters, many of them between 12 and 16, knocking him off his feet and kicking him on the ground. A passerby who attempted to intervene was also seemingly attacked by a number of the teens.

Arrests made

Local witnesses said the group had also pelted The Plough pub with eggs and shot fireworks at the building. Two arrests have now been made in connection with the spate of anti-social behaviour.

A 13-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and perverting the course of justice, a spokesperson for GMP said today (November 5). A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and section 47 assault. He has also been arrested on suspicion of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

Increased patrols under Operation Treacle

Police said patrols have been stepped up in the area as parts of Operation Treacle, the ongoing response to tackle anti-social behaviour. There will be an increased police presence in Cadishead over the Bonfire Night period, the force added.

PS Heather Stott, from the Eccles, Irlam and Cadishead Neighbourhood Team, said: "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will take robust action against anyone who chooses to cause disorder and distress within our communities. Through Operation Treacle, we are working closely with partner agencies to identify all those involved and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.

"I understand the concern these incidents have caused for local residents, and I want to reassure the community that we are working hard to disrupt this behaviour and prevent any further escalation. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area, with dedicated patrols and proactive activity taking place over the coming weeks as part of our ongoing work under Operation Treacle.

"I would encourage anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour or criminal activity to report it to us. Information from the public is vital in helping us identify offenders and take positive action. We remain committed to keeping our communities safe and will continue to take robust action against those responsible."

Anyone with information, CCTV, Ring doorbell or dashcam footage relating to these incidents is urged to contact police on 101 quoting log 3525 of 31/10/26. Reports can also be made via Live Chat at GMP's website. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
