A six-year-old boy died after falling from a bike into the path of an oncoming van in Wales, an inquest heard. Harrison Glynne Jones lost his life after being hit by a white Ford Transit tipper on Mill Road in Llanfairfechan, Conwy County Borough, at around 5pm on Thursday, October 1.
Inquest opened at Ruthin County Hall
John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, opened the inquest into his death at Ruthin County Hall on Monday, October 12. Harrison, from Buckley Terrace, Llanfairfechan, was said to have died from a head injury.
Mr Gittins said North Wales Police reported the child’s death to him. He was informed the youngster was with a friend when he fell from his pedal cycle onto the road outside his home.
Mr Gittins said: "Sadly there was a passing Ford Transit Tipper vehicle and he was struck by the vehicle as he fell into the roadway."
Paramedic pronounced death at scene
A paramedic pronounced Harrison dead at 5.27pm that evening. The inquest was adjourned by Mr Gittins for further investigations into Harrison’s death.
Following his passing, a fundraiser was launched to support Harrison’s family. Raising over £28,000, its organiser, Kate Jones, said the funds would help towards funeral costs and support the grieving family.
Kate wrote: "On Thursday 1st October, our family’s world was changed forever when Kayleigh and Daryl’s beautiful 6-year-old son Harrison was tragically hit by a vehicle outside of his own home and sadly passed away."
Fundraiser supports grieving family
She continued: "There are no words that can truly describe the heartbreak and devastation his parents, sisters and our whole family are experiencing. A child should never be taken from their family so suddenly, under such tragic circumstances and we are all struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss."
Kate added: "Harrison was a cheeky chappy, full of character with a personality that could light up a room, and he was loved more deeply than words could ever express."
She said: "Harrison’s mum and dad are facing the unimaginable task of saying goodbye to their precious little boy, while trying to somehow navigate life without him so we have set up this fundraiser to help Harrison’s parents through the difficult weeks and months ahead."
The money raised will help towards funeral and memorial costs, as well as helping his parents with rent, household bills, food and other essential expenses while they take time away from work to grieve and be with their family.
Following the incident, North Wales Police said a 39-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences. He was later released under investigation, police confirmed.
