A body has been found in the search for a young man believed to have died at sea. Michael Henry, 19, from Rothbury, was tragically believed to have died at sea after the kayak he was on capsized in Northumberland.
Incident Details
Two men were in the kayak when it capsized near Boulmer on Tuesday, July 7. The other man was able to swim to a buoy before being rescued by the Coastguard. Searches were immediately launched to locate Michael, from the Rothbury area.
Discovery and Identification
Northumbria Police has now confirmed that a body has been found in the search for Michael. He was located in the water off the coast of Blyth on July 26. Formal identification has since taken place and a report has been prepared for the coroner.
Family Tribute
Michael's family previously paid tribute to him, describing him as a "marvellous person". On July 15, they said: "We would like to thank everyone for all their love, kindness and support now and throughout Michael’s life; it was that love and kindness that made him the marvellous person he was."
Michael was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend; a keen sportsman who loved the outdoors. Michael was preparing to go travelling this summer and hoping to start university next academic year. "Michael will be forever in our thoughts, and we will miss him. Our thanks go to the emergency services and everyone who is helping to search for Michael."
