A body has been discovered during the search for a young man feared to have perished at sea.
Michael Henry, 19, was tragically presumed to have lost his life after the kayak he was travelling in overturned off the Northumberland coast.
Two individuals were aboard the kayak when it capsized close to Boulmer on Tuesday, July 7. The second man managed to reach a buoy before being retrieved by the Coastguard.
Search and recovery
Immediate search operations were launched to find Michael, who hailed from the Rothbury area. These efforts were suspended on July 15, with authorities believing he had died at sea.
Northumbria Police has now confirmed that a body has been recovered in the search for Michael. He was found in waters off the Blyth coastline on July 26.
Family tribute
Official identification has subsequently been completed and a file has been submitted to the coroner. Michael's relatives had previously honoured his memory, characterising him as a "marvellous person", reports Chronicle Live.
On July 15, they stated: "We would like to thank everyone for all their love, kindness and support now and throughout Michael's life; it was that love and kindness that made him the marvellous person he was."
Michael was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend; a keen sportsman who loved the outdoors. Michael was preparing to go travelling this summer and hoping to start university next academic year.
"Michael will be forever in our thoughts, and we will miss him. Our thanks go to the emergency services and everyone who is helping to search for Michael."
